From TCU Athletics:

FORT WORTH—TCU men’s basketball head coach Trent Johnson has announced the addition of forward Devonta Abron to the team for the 2012-13 season. Abron, a Dallas native, is transferring to the Horned Frog program from Arkansas.

A 6-8, 255-pound product of Seagoville High School, Abron appeared in all 32 games for the Razorbacks last season as a true freshman, making 22 starts for a squad that posted an 18-14 overall record. He scored 5.7 points per game while leading Arkansas in rebounding average at 4.2 boards in just over 16 minutes per contest.

“Devonta is a big addition for our program,” Johnson said. “He is a great kid who has been a starter from a program that has played at a high level in a major conference. He is just another example of the type of player our staff is looking for as we enter the Big 12 Conference next season.”

Abron paced Arkansas in rebounding six times in 2011-12 while reaching double figures in boards on four occasions. One of his top performances came in a Dec. 3 road matchup at UConn when he set a career high with 16 rebounds, including 12 on the offensive glass. He set his career scoring high with 12 points Nov. 30 against Mississippi Valley State, one of five games in which he reached double figures.

Prior to joining Arkansas, Abron starred for Seagoville High School in Dallas, where he was rated as the nation’s No. 21 power forward prospect by and a three-star recruit by several outlets prior to his senior season. He earned 2011 Parade Third-Team All-America honors following his final campaign after averaging 24.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest. Following the season, Abron starred in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star game played at TCU’s Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, earning MVP honors after posting 27 points and 10 rebounds.

Abron led District 4A-11 in both scoring (24.8 ppg) and rebounding (13.4 rpg) during his junior season in 2009-10 while being named Offensive Player of the Year. Overall in his Dragon career, he was named all-district three times while helping lead his squad to the state playoffs on two occasions. Among Abron’s other career highlights was a 50-point game as a sophomore in 2009 against North Dallas. He played AAU ball for the Dallas Mustangs.

Abron becomes the fourth addition to the TCU program for next season, joining incoming prep players Aaron Durley, Charles Hill and Clyde Smith III.
