TCU Baseball Preview 2013: Schedule, Notes, What To Watch For

Stefan Crichton returns in 2013 to a loaded TCU pitching staff. - KEITH ROBINSON

As you already know, Frogs O' War is home to the best coverage of TCU Baseball... Literally, you will find nothing better anywhere on the interwebs, or in the FWST. Our season preview series starts next week, leading up to a February 15th first pitch at Ole Miss.

It is almost college baseball season folks! You know, that glorious springtime tradition where fans head out to ballparks to watch the stars of tomorrow battle it out on college gridirons, all hoping to make it to Omaha and capture the holy grail... A National Championship.

Before we can begin that journey however, we must find out a little more about this years squad. I reviewed fall practice here in great detail, which will update you some on the new faces and questions that need to be answered for 2013 to be a success.

But, this is just the tip of the iceberg, a more in-depth and exhaustive preview is coming your way over the next few weeks leading up to opening day at Ole Miss on February 15th.

Here is the basic schedule I am working on right now...

Outfield: 01/21

Infield: 01/25

Catcher/DH: 01/28

Relief Pitching: 02/01

Starting Pitching: 02/04

Summary and Depth Chart: 02/08

Final Preview Review and Predictions: 02/11

Opening Day at Ole Miss: 02/15

I can't wait to get started, this should be an incredibly fun year for TCU, the Big 12 and all of college baseball.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

For now, let's get to some news and notes surrounding TCU Baseball:

- Team practice officially starts January 25th, 10 days from today. Opening day AT Ole Miss is 30 days away.

- Alex Young, Garrett Grim, Brian Trieglaff, Kyle Bacak, Derek Odell and Boomer White were all slowed by a varrying assortment of minor injuries during fall practice.... All are 100% now and shouldn't be hampered at all this spring.

- Jerrick Suiter is the only remaining member of the disabled list, probable to play but restricted to DH'ing right now.

- Season Ticket renewals are continuing, close to 100%... The waiting list to get reserved lower-level seats in Lupton is quite long, doesn't appear that many/any people will be able to move around... Single game ticket sales start in February, $12 for adult reserved ($8 for kids).

- New padding is being installed this week all around Williams-Reilly field at Lupton Stadium, including on the new outfield wall which is just about done... More on that in a minute.

- A new warning track around the field is also completed, should add a nice look and added safety for players.

- The new tiered-seating berm down the first base line is about 70% done... No more sliding down the hill, but more/better seating will be available. There should also be a new concrete patio area on the first base line after the visitor dugout (similar to what is in place down the third base line), should have patios to rent with alcohol sales as an option (not yet confirmed).

- The new dimensions for the Lupton Stadium fence have been decided...

Before the renovations, here is what the players had to deal with

330(Left) - 390(Left-Center) - 400(Center) - 380(Right-Center) - 330(Right)

Post renovations, here are the new outfield wall dimensions (approx.)

325(Left), 375(Left-Center), 390(Center), 370(Right-Center), 320(Right)

The new outfield fence will not be a smooth arc, should have some angles/jut-outs in it giving it more definition.
