TCU Defensive End Devonte Fields To Have Foot Surgery; Out For The Remainder Of The 2013 Season

Jerome Miron-US PRESSWIRE

As reported by numerous media sources, Fields will have surgery on his right foot and will miss the rest of the season. He will seek a medical redshirt to protect this year of his eligibility.

The news, from ESPN:

Fields, the Associated Press' reigning Big 12 defensive player of the year, will seek a medical redshirt. If he gets one, Fields would still have three years of eligibility remaining.

Fields suffered the foot injury in TCU's third game, a meeting at Texas Tech. He tried to return last weekend at Oklahoma, but was ineffective.

GOOD: Will allow us to grow up other weapons and luckily Lathan/others are starting to do that already.

BAD: You just lost an amazing talent at DE for the rest of the year.

The defense was great without him, but man... Losing a weapon like this will challenge the already shaky depth at defensive end, no bueno.
