TCU FY2012: Employee Pay and Compensation

TCU Athletics

Despite seeing revenues drop significantly in FY2012, TCU opted to raise expenditures including employee pay and overall compensation by about $30 million. Leading the pack was Gary Patterson, whose base salary rose to $2.5 million in 2011.

The most recent publicly available filing of TCU financial documents, including salaries of top paid employees, is available as part of TCU's FY2012 Form 990 filing. Unfortunately, because compensation is paid and calculated on a calendar year and TCU runs on a June-May fiscal year, the compensation information available is for calendar year 2011 only. Included below is each individuals 2010 total compensation, and subsequent 2011 compensation information.

Other compensation provided:

  • Charter air travel was provided to Victor Boschini, Donald Whelan, Tracy Syler-Jones, James Christian, Chris Del Conte, Jeff Mittie, Jim Schlossnagle, and Gary Patterson.
  • Social club dues and initiation fees were provided in accordance with employment contracts for several university employees, including Gary Patterson, Jim Schlossnagle, Jeff Mittie, Jim Christian, and Chris Del Conte.
  • Private air charter was provided to personal companions of Victor Boschini, Tracy Syler-Jones, Jim Christian, Chris Del Conte, Jeff Mittie, Gary Patterson, and Jim Schlossnagle.
  • TCU provides the chancellor, Victor Boschini, with a home and requires him to use it as a condition of employment. The value of the use of the home is $47,300 per year. The Chancellor also receives limited personal housekeeping services.
  • Social club dues were provided for Victor Boschini, Chris Del Conte, Don Whelan, Don Mills, James Hille, Gary Patterson, Jim Christian, Jeff Mittie, and Jim Schlossnagle.
  • $218,333 in deferred compensation was accrued but not paid during 2011 as part of a larger deferred compensation plan for Victor Boschini, scheduled to vest in 2016 if employed as chancellor.
  • Chris Del Conte received a $30,666 bonus for meeting performance criteria, and a $50,000 bonus for exemplary service. He also received $33,500 for relocation expenses.
  • Gary Patterson received $184,000 as a result of meeting athletics performance goals. Jim Christian received $5,000, Jeff Mittie received $10,000, and Jim Schlossnagle received $55,410.
  • Don Mills received $24,024 in "vacation pay."
