The Big XII in the BCS Era

As the curtains close on the BCS era, here is a rundown of how current and former members of the Big XII fared.

The following ranks each team by number of BCS appearances, with their overall record in parenthesis:

1. Oklahoma - 9 (4-5)

2. Texas - 4 (3-1)

3. West Virginia - 3 (3-0)

4. (tie) TCU - 2 (1-1)

4. (tie) Nebraska - 2 (1-1)

4. (tie) Kansas State - 2 (0-2)

7. (tie) Kansas - 1 (1-0)

7. (tie) Oklahoma State - 1 (1-0)

7. (tie) Baylor - 1 (0-1)

7. (tie) Colorado - 1 (0-1)

7. (tie) Texas A&M - 1 (0-1)

12. (tie) Iowa State - 0

12. (tie) Missouri - 0

12. (tie) Texas Tech - 0

The only teams to never make it to a BCS game were Iowa State, Missouri and Texas Tech. Let that sink in for a moment. Kansas and Baylor have been historically bad teams, but they both made it to the show. Texas. Tech. Did. Not.

TCU made it to BCS bowls twice as a non-AQ and came within a smidgen of one or possibly two other invites. One can argue that a non-AQ had an easier road to a BCS game, but there are several reasons why anyone with critical thinking skills knows this is utter nonsense and which may be the subject of a future FanPost.

By winning percentage, which I think counts somewhat less than number of appearances since it skews OU down significantly, the teams are ranked as follows:

1. 1.000 West Virginia (3 games)

1. 1.000 Oklahoma State (1 game)

1. 1.000 Kansas (1 game)

4. 0.750 Texas

5. 0.500 TCU

5. 0.500 Nebraska

7. 0.444 Oklahoma

8. 0.000 Kansas State (2 games)

8. 0.000 Baylor (1 game)

8. 0.000 Colorado (1 game)

8. 0.000 Texas A&M (1 game)
