Meet the Commits: L.J. Collier

L.J. Collier at the Nike Football Training Camp in Dallas, Tx - Tom Hauck

We continue the Meet the Commits series with L.J. Collier. The defensive end from Munday, TX could be the next big TCU defensive line stud.

L.J. Collier, rated as the No. 71 defensive end according to Scout.com, was a long time Texas Tech commit, pledging to the Red Raiders just after a Junior Day visit in February of 2013. That commitment lasted until mid January of this year, when TCU finally convinced the 3-star defensive end to flip and join Gary Patterson's defense.

A big reason for Collier's switch was Sonny Cumbie. Cumbie was Collier's primary recruiter while at Tech, and when the QB coach made the transition to the Frogs, Collier followed.

Munday High School, located in Munday, Texas about three hours west of DFW, won the Division II State Championship at the 1A level in 2012.

A consensus 3-star, Collier recorded 64 tackles, 15 TFL and 3 sacks his senior year, and he also saw significant time at wide receiver, tight end, and running back. While Collier played defensive end in high school, the 6-foot-4, 245-pounder is expected to move inside to defensive tackle at TCU.The transition to the inside could lead to some early playing time for Collier, as TCU is searching for depth at the position. With Jon Lewis walking away, TCU currently has three defensive tackles listed on the roster (Chucky Hunter, Davion Pierson, and Tevin Lawson). Mike Tuaua and Terrell Lathan may also see some playing time inside, but developing another full time tackle is essential, and Collier has the ability to be that guy.
