Football Recruits Take Note

Looking for a college football program that can maximize your draft potential? Since 2009, the number of players from current Big 12 schools drafted by NFL teams breaks down as follows:

1. 33 - Oklahoma

2. 20 - Texas

3. 18 - TCU (tie)

3. 18 - Baylor (tie)

5. 16 - West Virginia

6. 11 - Oklahoma State

7. 8 - Kansas State (tie)

7. 8 - Texas Tech (tie)

9. 5 - Iowa State

10. 4 - Kansas

Despite what some considered to be an off year for the Big 12, the conference still made a very respectable showing. All but two teams had at least one player drafted (sorry, UT, but you can't claim credit for Garrett Gilbert). Baylor finished strong in the late rounds and, as much as it pains me to say, will likely continue to do so in the coming years. OU will continue to produce pro talent at least as long as Stoops is on the sideline.

My point in showing these numbers is to point out that, over the past five years, TCU's track record rivals the conference's elite programs. TCU has produced almost as many draftees as the University of Texas, and has more than doubled up on that other in-state university, Texas Tech. TCU can hold its own in turning out pro talent, and with the athletes we have coming through the system, there shouldn't be any dropoff in developing players for the NFL draft.

That's a pretty good track record for a small private university that supposedly doesn't belong in the Big 12.
