The Ironman World Championships are held every year in Kona, Hawaii. My dream, as a competitive age group triathlete, has always been to compete in Kona. Swim 2.4 miles, Bike 112 miles, and Run 26.2 miles against the best athletes in the world.
Last week, I was selected to represent The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the Ironman World Championships. But, as you can imagine, World Championship races require world championship fundraising efforts. That is why I have pledged to raise over $30,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
As you probably know, Team in Training raises funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. What you may not know is that the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has raised over 1.4 BILLION DOLLARS in our mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. All of the money I will be raising will stay here in Texas to fund cancer research. For example, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is helping to fund over 20 clinical trials being conducted by UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has also supported the research into CTL019, which was just approved for "breakthrough therapy" status by the FDA, the first immunotherapy of its kind. In trials, it has an 89% complete response (aka, a cure!) in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This is revolutionary!
I post on Frogs O War, for two reasons. First, to let everyone know that I will be wearing purple when I cross that finish line on October 11 (which coincidentally is the same day we beat Baylor). Second, I'd ask that some of you consider please consider making a donation of $50, $100, $250, or $500. To make a 100% tax deductible donation, please visit my fundraising website below. In the next few weeks, I will be raffling off a Black Rain AR-15 ($100/ticket, only 100 sold) and a Yeti cooler ($50/ticket, only 100 sold).
