After looking at the universities expenditures, revenue, and compensation, let's take a look at athletic department numbers from the same time period, FY2012.
In his final season as head coach of the MWC version TCU Horned Frogs, Gary Patterson took home $3.1 million in total compensation. Overall, his compensation was down $400k from 2010 when he took home $3.5 million, though his base pay was up $500k.
Despite seeing revenues drop significantly in FY2012, TCU opted to raise expenditures including employee pay and overall compensation by about $30 million. Leading the pack was Gary Patterson, whose base salary rose to $2.5 million in 2011.
Tuition continues to rise, but so do expenses at TCU, so much so that the university posted a loss in FY2012, down dramatically from the previous year.
