In a fun little story mostly about Gary Patterson's hot temper, Frank Schwab reminds Dr. Saturday readers how Gary Patterson swore off helping SMU any after June Jones slighted TCU in an off-hand remark. Jones said TCU doesn't change much, and that's how he was able to prepare his team to beat the Frogs in 2011. Patterson didn't take kindly to that comment.
"June Jones said we never change," Patterson said. "I think June Jones is 1-8 against TCU since he was at Hawaii (and SMU). I don't think he's changed that much either. ... I don't go there.... Don't look for any help coming from us ever again," Patterson said. "SMU got a lot of help from us over the last three or four years. They are not going to get any help about a game or a conference; they are going to get no help from Gary Patterson. Don't ask me about anything. We've bent over backwards to help them because that's what I believe in."
Patterson says he's talked with Jones since and patched things up, but it's nice to see a little fire sparking up in this rivalry. It's been one-sided for over a decade, and was one-sided the other way for at least that long before that.
Here's to smack-talk from the coaches; keep it coming, guys.
