Holding your opponent to .340 shooting and .140 from three is generally a recipe for a win in basketball. However, for the basketfrogs it wasn't enough tonight, as TCU struggled even worse from the floor and got dominated inside. While our former conference mates didn't put up the point total that you'd expect from either their Phi Slamma Jamma days (or even the point total you'd expect from the run and shoot days), but the tight defense that the Frogs employed was not clean, sending the Cougars to the line 22 times- with the visitors making 17 of them, compared to the pitiful 5 of 18 performance the Frogs checked in from the charity stripe. In a fairly even game every point counts, and those 13 that the Frogs left at the line would have been more than enough to turn the tide in the game, even while being outrebounded by 7.
In the end, all it is is a non-conference loss- but beating the in-state teams is key to better in-state recruiting, as our football team has shown us. The Frogs will have to get better on the boards and from the line if they're going to win games (plural) in the Big 12 this year. Next up: TCU will be leaving the state for the first time this season to take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, who are 4-3 on the season. The game will be a 12:05 PM tipoff on Saturday, so please drop by Frogs O' War for a gamethread.
