Last season, the TCU volleyball team started 13-0, won three tournaments and, by late September, had grown such a following that more than 2,500 fans crammed into the team’s University Recreation Center gym, lining the edge of the court to watch the team host then-No. 8 Texas.

The ballots submitted for the USA Today coaches’ poll aren’t made public until the end of the season but the AP poll ballots are made public year round. According to Pollspeak.com’s database of AP ballots, eight voters did not include TCU in their top 25 while another — Columbia (Miss.) Daily-Tribune Joe Walljasper — put the Horned Frogs in his top 10. Walljasper was one of 17 (out of 60) pollsters to have Alabama No. 1, while top-ranked USC was No. 2 on his ballot. Georgia and Florida State were ranked 6th and 7th in this year’s AP preseason poll but Walljasper had them 11th and 13th, respectively, to help make room for TCU at No. 10.

By the close of business Wednesday, the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic will have submitted its proposal to host the new Champions Bowl. Then the Southeastern Conference and the Big 12 will sort through the bids. The decision most likely will come down to a handful of the 10 cities that sent requests for proposals (RSPs, as they’re known). Expect Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston and most likely San Antonio to join Arlington in the process, according to multiple industry sources.
