TCU vs. Grambling: Keys to the Game

Keystothegame03_medium

The Frogs will kickoff their season against the Grambling State Tigers Saturday night at Amon Carter Stadium. TCU should handle business fairly easy as Grambling lost to Alcorn State last week, but here are your keys to the game to unlock a Horned Frog victory.

Control the game and set the tempo early: We all know who the better team in this matchup is, but the Frogs can’t let Grambling stay in the game and feel they actually have a shot at winning. TCU needs to come out firing early and let the Tigers know they have absolutely no chance.

Establish the run: TCU has one of the best backfields in all of college football, there is no reason not to pound the rock. Especially against a team who gave up 224 yards on the ground last weekend.

Stop the run: Grambling only had 66 yards passing in week one against Alcorn State, BUT the Tigers did rush for 356 yards, with two different players going for over 100 yards. TCU cannot allow GSU to establish its run game.

Offensive Line unity: One of the big question marks coming into the season was the offensive line. This is a perfect opportunity for the o-line to start gelling and coming together as a unit. Pound the rock and keep Pachall off the ground.

Pressure the QB: A big issue for the Horned Frog defense last season was getting pressure on the opposing team’s QB. I would like to see that improve this season and there isn’t a better time to start than in game one.

Stay healthy: Injuries are a part of the game but TCU cannot afford to lose more players on the depth chart. Once the starters establish the lead, get them out of the game and let the younger guys gain valuable experience.
