It's OU Hate Week, but I'm getting all twisted up inside.
No, I don't have any affiliation with Oklahoma. No wife that went there, no family, very few friends from high school went there. So why then, is a divide rising up inside me?
It's that damn Bob Stoops being so awesome. Seriously.
Why, might you ask, do you think he's so great?
Well, it's not because he constantly destroys Texas. It isn't his gleaming record in the Big 12 (93-22 in conference since 1999, his first year at OU).
It's not the visor. Patterson wears the visor better than Stoops. View the proof above.
And no, Stoops doesn't, nor will he ever, find more favor than Patterson in my sports heart. Don't get crazy. This is just a passing feeling.
But Stoops... he just....he loves trash talking the SEC. I think it may be his favorite activity behind dominating Mack Brown in the Red River Shootout (enough with this politically correct "Red River Rivalry" bs).
Here's his latest, from a conversation with Oklahoma beat writers the other day:
"Just a few years ago, we had all the quarterbacks," Stoops said. "And now, all of a sudden, we can play a little better defense and some other people can’t play defense.
"Funny how people can’t play defense when they have pro-style quarterbacks over there, which we’ve had. They’re all playing in the NFL right now."
Awesome. This isn't the first time that Stoops has fired shots at the mighty SEC. Back in May, Stoops criticized the conference that has the last seven BCS National Championships, saying that they weren't that great top to bottom, and that the Big 12 actually had better depth as a conference.
He made a good point, as 90% of the Big 12 reached a bowl game in 2012, as opposed to only 64% for the SEC (both teams had nine schools reach bowl games in 2012).
He loves getting all those SEC homers riled up, and he can do it so swiftly, with such ease. It's incredible, really.
I think another part of it is his similarities to Patterson in intensity, his love for good defense and a strong running game. Who knows really. But he's an incredible troll. That's for dang sure.
So troll on, Bob. Troll on.
