Senior cornerback Jason Verrett has just been named a co-Defensive Player of the Year for the Big 12, sharing the honor with Texas defensive lineman Jackson Jeffcoat. The award is voted on every year by the league's coaches.
Verrett had 16 passes defended on the year, with 14 break ups and two interceptions. He also recorded 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. While Verrett's numbers were down a bit from 2012 (during which he had 6 interceptions and over 20 passes defended) it was due to quarterbacks throwing in different directions.
This is the second straight year a TCU player has been named Defensive Player of the Year, with Devonte Fields earning the award from the Associated Press in 2012.
Verrett was also named to the 1st-team AP All Big 12 earlier this week.
