TCU Set For Road Trip At Kansas State

The TCU baseball team will hit the road for nine of the next 11 games beginning this weekend at Kansas State. The Horned Frogs have won three straight league series.

TCU NOTABLES
• TCU won its third straight Big 12 series with wins over Baylor Saturday and Sunday.
• Saturday's 15-inning game against the Bears was the longest in documented TCU history.
• TCU lowered its ERA to 2.78, a mark that ranks second in the Big 12 and 22nd nationally.
• TCU's 2.31 ERA in Big 12 play is tops in the league.

• Tanner Witt and Ross Kivett rank 21st in the nation with 60 total hits on the season.
• Jared King leads the team with 34 RBIs.
• Kansas State also leads the league with 77 stolen bases. Three Wildcats have at least 11 stolen bases, led by Kivett's 18.
• Tanner Witt also gets the job done on the mound with a team-leading five saves in 10 apperances.
• Matt Wivinis has two of the three complete games and is 5-1.
• Defensively, the Wildcats rank second in the league with a .974 fielding percentage.

SERIES NOTABLES
• TCU and Kansas State will be meeting for just the 10th time in series history.

EXTRA, EXTRA
Saturday's game between Baylor and TCU went 15 innings. It's the longest game in documented TCU history dating back to 1966.

Three times in the past, a TCU game made it to the 14th inning. The last time TCU played 14 came in 2011 against Kansas. The Jayhawks outlasted the Frogs 4-3 in that contest.

Saturday's game was the fifth extra inning affair for the Horned Frogs in 2013. TCU improved to 2-3 in those games.

Since Jim Schlossnagle took over in 2004, the Frogs are 24-13 in extra inning games.

NO STRANGER TO CLOSE GAMES
All three games against the Bears were decided by one run. After dropping Friday's contest, TCU won the next two contests by a single run.

Thirteen of the Horned Frogs 40 games this season have been decided by one run. The Frogs own a 6-7 record in those contests, including three of the last four.

Additionally, the Frogs have played in six game decided by two runs. Overall, TCU is 7-12 in games decided by two runs or less.

RINGING THEM UP
The Horned Frog pitching staff ranks second in the league with 323 strikeouts. The Frogs are one of three teams with 300 strikeouts on the season.

This past weekend, the Frogs added 35 punchouts to their tally, including 17 in Saturday's 15-inning game. Thirteen times this season, the Frog pitchers have fanned at least 10 batters in a game.

TCU ranks 12th nationally in K:BB ratio a 2.99 K/BB. The Frog pitching staff has issued just 108 walks on the season. TCU is also 35th nationally in K/9 at 7.9.

THE RIGHT-LEFT COMBO
Trey Teakell and Travis Evans have been revelations out of the bullpen for the coaching staff this season.

The duo are a combined 3-0 and have allowed only two runs (one earned) in 29 innings as relievers for a 0.31 ERA.

They each have 15 strikeouts and have issued just four walks between them. Opponents are hitting only .194 against them.

A right-hander, Teakell has not allowed an earned run as a reliever in 2013, spanning 16 2/3 innings pitched. The lone run he surrendered came back on Feb. 22 against Cal State Fullerton.

The left-handed throwing Evans has given up just one run in 12 1/3 innings pitched this season. He has not been touched for a run in his last six outings.

They have allowed just seven of their 26 base runners to score.

SLICK FIELDING FROGS
With just two errors in the series against Baylor, TCU saw its fielding percentage climb to .975. That mark sets the bar in the Big 12 and ranks 33rd nationally.

TCU has allowed just 22 runners to reach base via an error. The Frogs have 42 total errors on the season.

Eliminating the pitcher's errors from the total, TCU is fielding .978 as a team. The infield boasts a .971 fielding percentage, while the catching corps has a .989 percentage.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
For the first time in the month of April, the Horned Frogs will leave the Metroplex. TCU has played 12 games this month, and only one has been on an opponent's field (UT Arlington). Friday night's game will be just the 15th road game this season.

Offensively, the Frogs are hitting .257 as a team. Boomer White has enjoyed the road more than any other Frog this season, as he is hitting .472 away from home. Jantzen Witte leads the team with 15 RBIs.

On the mound, the pitching staff boasts a miniscule 2.72 ERA and is holding opponents to a .233 average. Preston Morrison has a team-high two wins and a 1.57 ERA in 28 2/3 innings pitched.

Defensively, the Frogs make the opponents earn it with just nine errors for a .984 fielding percentage.
