The Horned Frogs will host the Golden Gophers at Amon G. Carter Stadium on Sept. 13, 2014. TCU will play at Minnesota on Sept. 3, 2015.
"We're excited about the opportunity to face a very good Minnesota program that’s coming off a bowl season," TCU football coach Gary Patterson said. "To schedule someone non-conference from such a prestigious league like the Big Ten helps enhance our recruiting efforts. We've played Big Ten opponents in the past and know it will be a tremendous challenge."
TCU and Minnesota have met just once before on the gridiron with the Golden Gophers taking a 9-7 win in 1974 in Minneapolis.
The Horned Frogs' last two contests with Big Ten opponents have come in bowl games. TCU faced Michigan State in the 2012 Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl after defeating Wisconsin in the 2011 Rose Bowl. The Horned Frogs' last regular-season meeting with a Big Ten team was a 48-45 double-overtime victory over Northwestern in the 2004 season opener in Fort Worth.
"We're very excited to begin a home-and-home series with Minnesota," TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte said. "Facing a Big Ten opponent fits into our philosophy of playing a national schedule. In addition to this year's meeting with LSU in the Cowboys Classic, we also have upcoming home-and-homes with Arkansas (2016-17) and Ohio State (2018-19).
"We know our fans will enjoy seeing a Big Ten team come to Amon G. Carter Stadium in 2014. Playing Minnesota is a great fit for us."
