Twelve members of the TCU baseball team are participating with various teams around the country this summer. With the Cape Cod League kicking off its season on Wednesday night, all 12 Horned Frogs are officially in action this summer.
Brandon Finnegan was the opening day starter for Cape Cod's Falmouth Commodores. The lefty was the winning pitcher after allowing a run on three hits in five innings of work. He walked one and struck out eight. Preston Morrison worked a scoreless ninth with a strikeout. Kevin Cron was the starting first baseman. He scored a pair of runs and drew a walk in four plate appearances. Trey Teakell is a member of the Commodores, but has yet to see action on the mound.
On Thursday, June 20, Finnegan and Morrison will leave the Commodores to report to North Carolina for the USA Baseball Training Camp. Joining them will be Riley Ferrell, who is currently playing for the Santa Barbara Foresters of the California Collegiate League. Finnegan's spot on the squad is secured, while Morrison and Ferrell will be competing to earn a spot on the final roster.
The Foresters roster features a pair of Horned Frogs. Along with Ferrell, Keaton Jones is on the squad. Jones has started 10 of the 11 games this season and is hitting .258. Four of his eight hits have gone for extra bases. Ferrell has appeared in two games and has a save in five innings of work. He boasts a 1.80 ERA and has fanned six.
Four Horned Frogs are playing in the Northwoods League this summer. Jerrick Suiter and Alex Young are member of the Lakeshore Chinooks, while Boomer White and Brian Trieglaff are playing for the Green Bay Bulldogs.
Suiter has a pair of home runs and three doubles as part of 12 hits in 13 games played for the Bulldogs. Young has started a game and has made one appearance out of the bullpen. He has eight strikeouts in eight innings of work and boasts an ERA of 1.12.
White has picked up where he left off in the regular season, hitting .310 in nine games played. He has three doubles and a triple to go along with three RBIs. Trieglaff has started three games for the Bulldogs and has a 4.50 ERA in 12 innings pitched.
Cody Jones has made three starts for the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. He is hitting .273 with two RBIs and has tallied a pair of stolen bases in three attempts.
Playing for the San Luis Obispo Blues, Travis Evans is 2-0 in three appearances. He has 12 strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings pitched and owns a 0.93 ERA. To keep up-to-date with the Horned Frogs this summer, you can find their stats at the links below.
