Fourteen members of the TCU baseball team are representing the Purple and White proudly across the country this summer as they continue play with their respective teams.
In the second game of the season for the Cape Cod Falmouth Commodores, Trey Teakell picked up the win after six innings of nearly perfect pitching. He struck out three and surrendered only one hit in his debut for the Commodores. In two starts this season, he has seven strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings pitched with an ERA of 2.38.
On June 18, Brandon Finnegan made his second start and allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings of work. Preston Morrison was called upon in relief for Finnegan and pitched 5 1/3 innings and earned the victory for the Commodores. Morrison now has a 1.42 ERA over 6 1/3 innings of work. Kevin Cron is one of two members of the squad to have played in all 10 games so far this season and has put together a solid .289 average with seven RBIs at first base.
On Thursday, June 20, Finnegan and Morrison joined fellow Frog Riley Ferrell in North Carolina for the USA Baseball Training Camp. On June 22, Ferrell recorded a shutout inning of relief work with two strikeouts in the only game of the season so far against the Peninsula Pilots. The manager of the USA Collegiate National Team is TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle.
While he was with the Santa Barbara Foresters, Ferrell worked seven innings with an ERA of 1.29 and recorded one save in his debut outing on June 7. Keaton Jones has appeared in 20 of the Foresters 21 games this season. He has collected a .238 batting average with 15 hits and 11 RBIs, the second most on the squad.In 20 games this season for the Green Bay Bullfrogs in the Northwoods League, Boomer White leads the team in batting average with .306 among players with 50 at-bats or more. He's also driven in 10 runs and launched two home runs as well. Brian Trieglaff has pitched in six games this season. He began the season in the rotation but has moved into the bullpen for his last three outings and seen more success in that role. On June 22, he earned the win after a perfect seventh inning against the Battle Creek Bombers.
Alex Young and Jerrick Suiter are also representing the Frogs in the Northwoods League this summer, but are playing for the Lakeshore Chinooks. Alex Young earned a spot in the rotation after a stellar debut on June 5. Since then, Young has put together a 2.32 ERA over 19 1/3 innings pitched and has recorded a team high 21 strikeouts. Suiter has spent time in the utility role for the Chinooks and came in to pitch on June 12 to close out an 11-4 victory with a perfect three-strikeout inning.
Cody Jones has appeared in nine of the Newport Gulls' 11 games this season putting together a .273 batting average and driving in three runs. He leads the team in stolen bases with six in eight attempts.
Travis Evans has had a fantastic beginning of the season for the San Luis Obispo Blues. In 19 2/3 innings of work, he has 22 strikeouts for an ERA of 1.31 and earned two wins in the California Collegiate League.
Two Frogs have taken their talents to the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League to play for the Southern Ohio Copperheads. Colton Turner has lit up opposing pitchers for a .500 batting average with seven RBIs and 10 hits, four of which have been doubles. Travis Hennessey has appeared in 12 of 15 games for the Copperheads and has driven in four runs this season.
