Devonte Fields May Have A Broken Foot, Will Likely Not Play vs. SMU

The Star-Telegram reported this morning that Fields suffered a foot injury late in the game. Word today is that the injury could be a broken foot or a badly sprained foot, which could hold Fields out of action indefinitely.

From the Star-Telegram this morning:

TCU defensive end Devonte Fields suffered a foot injury late in Thursday's game and limped off the field. A source said the injury is worse than first thought, but no further details were available after the game late Thursday.

Fields, last year's Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year, made his first start of the season against Texas Tech after serving a game and three quarters of a team-issued two-game suspension. The former Arlington Martin star had three tackles, including two for losses.

TCU coach Gary Patterson's concern for an injury was one of the reasons he chose to play Fields for a quarter last week against Southeastern Louisiana. Fields still owes the school one quarter of his suspension, Patterson said earlier this week.

The news so far today indicates that Fields may have suffered a broken foot, or possibly a bad sprain, both of which would likely keep him out of upcoming game vs. SMU and potentially further into the season. Fields was expected to undergo further tests today which should reveal the full extent of the injury.
