TCU Recruiting: One Week Out

We're one week away from National Signing Day on February 5th, and the class of 2014 has gotten much stronger in just one week. Can the Frogs finish strong?

Kevin Jairaj-US PRESSWIRE

This time last week TCU's recruiting class sat at 16 commits, and the Frogs had just lost 4-star lineman Ty Barrett out of the blue.

Now, the class sits at 20 commits and Barrett is back in the fold. It's been a strong week for Gary Patterson and his staff, but there are still some big names out there for the taking.

Here's the current commit list, from Scout.com:

TCU

TCU added three names to this list, not including Barrett, in OL Trey Elliott, CB Ridwan Issahaku, and S Travin Howard.

So, with one week left, TCU has a chance at some big names. Here's who will be on campus this week and into the weekend.

Braden Smith - 5-star OL, 6-6/292, Olathe, KS

Visiting: 1/31

With Ty Barrett back in the fold and planning to be on campus this weekend, you'd have to think the prospects of landing Smith's services have significantly improved over their odds from a week ago. Smith would be the icing on the cake for a recruiting class loaded down with offensive linemen, a position SB Nation recently listed as the hardest position to recruit.

JoJo Robinson - 4-star CB, 6-0/175, Miami, FL

Visiting: 1/31

Robinson visited Arkansas over the weekend and by all accounts came away very impressed with what the Razorbacks had to offer. Robinson, listed as a wide receiver but ranked as the No. 28 cornerback recruit on Scout.com, said that Arkansas was recruiting him to play wide receiver. Frankly, I've always assumed that Patterson was recruiting Robinson as a corner, but now the seeds of doubt have been planted in my brain.

George Rushing - 3-star WR, 6-2/190, Fort Lauderdale, FL

Visiting: 1/29

Rushing will be on campus today, and we'll let you know when we hear how things went. He received an in-home visit from Doug Meacham last week, and was visiting Louisville last Friday. He also had a visit scheduled to LSU for this Friday, but that has been replaced by a visit to Mizzou over the weekend. Rushing, currently still a verbal commit to Louisville, doesn't hold an offer from the Frogs, but that will most likely change once he gets on campus.

Some other guys the Frogs are chasing:

Lorenzo Joe - 4-star WR, 6-2/195, Abilene, TX

Visited: 1/24

Joe is currently a verbal commit to Texas, but has recently been considering TCU due to the coaching changes down in Austin. Joe is scheduled to be in Fort Worth for an official visit on Friday, and it seems like if anyone pulls him away from UT it's going to be TCU.

Kameron McKnight - 3-star MLB, 6-2/220, Clinton, LA

On January 18th McKnight told Scout.com he was down to Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech and Miami (FL), but it appears the Frogs are trying to insert themselves into the conversation for Kameron's services. McKnight also tweeted on January 25th that he missed his trip to Louisiana Monroe due to weather.

Caleb Scott - 3-star WR, 6-3/188, Suwanee, GA

Visited: 1/23

Scott is being recruited hard by the Frogs and  Vanderbilt, and it seems like it is down to those two for his services, with Missouri also in the mix. Something to note, Scott's father is a Vandy alum, which is part of the reason this could come down to the wire. Family ties to the school are strong, and apparently outweigh the recruiting disaster that Vanderbilt is going through right now (they only have 10 commits for this class).

Datrin Guyton - 3-star WR, 6-4/180, Manor, TX

Visited: 1/24

Guyton is currently an Oregon State commit and isn't letting on to what he's thinking. He said he enjoyed his visit last Friday.

Isaiah Johnson - 2-star WR, 6-2/185, Bryan, TX

Johnson is currently committed to Houston as a wide receiver, but according to Alex Apple, Patterson is trying to convince him that he should come to TCU as a cornerback. Johnson doesn't have a visit scheduled, but that could change in the coming days.

Potential Sleepers:

Brad Lundblade - 3-star C, 6-3/290, Argyle, TX

It seems less and less likely that Lundblade is going to get an offer from the Frogs, but if they miss out on Braden Smith and there's still time, he could get a last minute call.

Darrion Johnson - 3-star CB, 5-11/170, Navasota, TX

Johnson is an odd case, as he isn't committed anywhere and I haven't found any articles written about him in the last few months. Depending on what recruiting site you're looking at, he holds offers from TCU, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Illinois and UTEP. Gary can never have too many corners to work with, and as long as it isn't grades holding him back I'm in favor of offering.
