For the Horned Frogs, Minnesota is the gift that keeps on giving. The Golden Gophers have won six of eight since losing to TCU in September — one of the two losses came by a touchdown to Ohio State — and now stand within a win against Wisconsin of taking home the Big Ten West Division.
His Horned Frogs are perpetually on the move in the unpredictable College Football Playoff rankings, from seventh to sixth to that oh-so-coveted No. 4 spot. Now they’re No. 5. Everything this team has done and everything that comes next will be held up to extreme scrutiny. Every margin of victory now matters. So does the impending threat of Baylor moving ahead of TCU and that still-treacherous path to a Big 12 championship.
Just three years into their membership, they are within two games of claiming at least a share of the football trophy. If they win at Texas on Thursday night and at home two weeks later against Iowa State, the Horned Frogs will be champions or co-champions of the 10-team league, one of the Power 5 conferences.
Already looking ahead to Thursday, I’m predicting a wonderful Thanksgiving of family, bird, football and cockroaches.
The players on this TCU team are close to doing what the players on no other TCU team have done.
