Tyler Matthews is Transferring From TCU

The quarterback was battling for a starting job, but appears to be leaving the program.

Well, this isn't news I was expecting to get today. It appears as if Tyler Matthews will be transferring from TCU, effectively removing him from contention for the starting QB position.

Matthews, a sophomore out of Wichita, Kansas, saw limited action last year, despite struggles from Trevone Boykin early in the season. Now, after no clear frontrunner for the starting spot emerged in the spring, Matthews is taking his talents elsewhere.

The transfer can be seen several ways. First, that the coaching staff has annointed Trevone Boykin as the starter for the 2014 season. Secondly, we could assume that the coaching staff is going to go the way of a true freshman, once Foster Sawyer and Grayson Muehlstein step on campus this summer.

We could also assume that there's still no real leader for the starting job, but Matthews was told it wasn't going to be him.

Originally a 4-star recruit out of McPherson High School, Matthews selected the Frogs over Kansas and Kansas State. There's no word yet on where he will be heading.

Best of luck, Tyler.

Meanwhile, let the QB madness rage on, Frog fans.
