News broke yesterday that quarterback Tyler Matthews was transferring, but his replacement could be coming in sooner than we think. And, lest we forget, we have a baseball series with Texas to concern ourselves with.

Texas A&M quarterback Matt Joeckel, who earned a bachelor’s degree in business in December, announced Wednesday morning that he will transfer to another school for his final season of eligibility. Then just before noon, TCU quarterback Tyler Matthews announced via Twitter that he is leaving the school.

Joeckel would not have to sit out one season because he graduated in December. He has one year of eligibility remaining. He clearly was never going to see the field again under head coach Kevin Sumlin, but for TCU he would be a nice bridge to high school signee Foster Sawyer.

The Longhorns (30-8, 9-3 Big 12) have won nine of their last 10. The Frogs (23-13, 7-5) have won eight of nine. Texas leads the Big 12, one game ahead of Oklahoma State and two games ahead of TCU.

TCU golfers Julien Brun and Paul Barjon were selected to the 2014 All-Academic Big 12 Golf Team, the league announced Wednesday. Brun earned first-team honors for the second consecutive season, while Barjon was named to the second team.
