FORT WORTH, Texas – Departed senior Thomas Montigel was honored for his academic excellence this week, as he was selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court for the 2013-14 season.

Montigel, who was named an Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree in 2013-14, appeared in 25 contests this past season and started the final regular-season game against Oklahoma. He closed out the year playing 12 minutes against Baylor at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship in Kansas City, Mo., while leading the Frogs in free throw percentage, shooting 86 percent from the charity stripe.

To be eligible for the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be either a junior or senior academically and must boast a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2013-14 academic year.

Montigel joined a record-number 895 student-athletes from 335 colleges and universities to earn the distinction, including 14 from league foes.

Congratulations Thomas, and thanks for some good news on a crummy day.
