Gary Patterson had mentioned at Big 12 media days that Carter was likely done playing for TCU, but he was still on the team roster on GoFrogs.com as recently as earlier this week.
“We really would like to have one guy,” quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie said. “If you take two quarterbacks and you split reps, you probably get two average quarterbacks.”
Trevone Boykin said he lost weight during the off-season because he ran more and ate better, not because he’s planning to move to receiver.
When the Frogs open camp Monday, much focus will be on moving the ball. Head coach Gary Patterson went in a different direction in the offseason and hired both Doug Meacham and Sonny Cumbie as co-coordinators to steer a spread offense that can hopefully compete in the fast-paced world of the Big 12. Then the Frogs added quarterback Matt Joeckel, who has one year of eligibility remaining after graduating from Texas A&M.
Preseason training camp for the TCU football team began Sunday morning, and the Horned Frogs are looking to bounce back after last year’s disappointing 4-8 season.
In addition to Patterson, co-offensive coordinators Sonny Cumbie and Doug Meacham, quarterback Trevone Boykin, safety Geoff Hooker, quarterback Matt Joeckel, defensive end Terrell Lathan, defensive end James McFarland and offensive tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai also met with the media.
