TCU currently has 14 players either on a practice squad or an active roster. Not only did the Horned Frogs have a first round draft pick in Jason Verrett earlier this year, but they also had a member of the 2014 Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, Clint Greshman. Each week the FOW will break down each of the players starting with our former quarterback, Andy Dalton...
Andy Dalton (QB):
Dalton lead the Cincinnati Bengals to an opening week victory on the road versus the Baltimore Ravens 23-16. With a late 4th quarter touchdown throw to A.J. Green, the Bengals were able to pull out a close one. Dalton was 25 of 38 for 301 yards and no interceptions.
Marcus Cannon (OT):
Cannon got the start at offensive tackle for the New England Patriots in an opening loss against Miami. Cannon started 6 games last season.
Tank Carder (LB):
Carder saw some action for the Cleveland Browns where they nearly pulled off a great comeback against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He appeared in 15 of 16 games in 2013.
Clint Gresham (LS):
Gresham was the long snapper in the Seattle Seahawks opening win over the Green Bay Packers. Pretty good start to the season for the defending Super Bowl champions.
David Hawthorne (LB):
Hawthorne had a strong game at linebacker for the New Orleans Saints. He recorded 8 tackles in the overtime lose versus the Atlanta Falcons.
Jerry Hughes (DE):
The former monster defensive end for TCU was awarded his first opening game start, as the Buffalo Bills were able to beat the Chicago Bears in week one. Hughes also recorded a tackle in the game.
Colin Jones (S):
The second year Carolina Panther saw some action at safety this week in their win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He recorded a tackle as well.
Jeremy Kerley (WR):
"Mr. Utility" caught 5 passes for 38 yards for the New York Jets in their opening week win over the Oakland Raiders. His long reception was 19 yards.
Stansly Maponga (DE):
Maponga recorded a tackle in the thrilling overtime victory for the Atlanta Falcons. He saw action in 12 games for the Falcons as a rookie last season.
Marshall Newhouse (OT):
The former Green Bay Packer was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals where he started and blocked for Andy Dalton.
Jason Verrett (CB):
Verrett was the 25 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and he was selected by the San Diego Chargers. Verrett played at cornerback Monday night and he looked good in his debut as he recorded 4 tackles and a pass breakup in the close loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Daryl Washington (LB):
The Pro Bowl alternate from 2013 did not see any action this week.
Practice Squad Players:
Josh Boyce (WR) New England Patriots and Matthew Tucker (RB) Philadelphia Eagles
