No. 24 Oklahoma State vs. Texas Tech (Thursday)
Jamie Plunkett
Oklahoma State 45, Texas Tech 17 - Tech gets dominated on a short week, after being unable to stop Arkansas at all. Oklahoma State does what they want all night, and Tech falls to .500 on the season. Kliff still looks good though, so it's all good in Lubbock.
coachmelissa
Oklahoma State 56, Texas Tech 42 - Texas Tech is not going to be able to slow down the OSU offense, no matter who is behind center for the Cowboys. Kingsbury said in an interview this week that people on campus still call him Kliff, but he hopes that changes as he gets older. Well, maybe after this week they'll stop calling you by your first name, and start calling for your job. (I know they will never run him off, he's just too darn good looking for that).
tylervr11
Oklahoma State 42, Texas Tech 28 - My guess is that there both teams will have a slower first half and then turnovers will create a lot of points in the second half. The score will not be as close as it seems. Tech's defense will not be able to stop OSU.
Hawkeyed Frog
Oklahoma State 41, Texas Tech 30 - Texas Tech cannot stop the run and has struggled to get their offense going in the face of turnovers. OSU can run, throw and their defense thrives on forcing turnovers. I think things stay relatively close, but it's a lot more likely to be a Cowboy beatdown than a Tech win.
Marshall Weber
Oklahoma State 49, Texas Tech 28 - Going with the Arkansas score here for Tech. It's going to become more evident that Tech is just simply not that great this year.
No. 25 Kansas State vs. UTEP
Jamie Plunkett
Kansas State 42, UTEP 13 - Kansas State unleashes all their frustrations of handing the game to Auburn the week before, and UTEP is just the poor, unsuspecting bystander that catches the brunt of their wrath. UTEP's run game is decent, but if Auburn couldn't move the ball on the ground, the Miners won't either. Roll Snyd.
coachmelissa
Kansas State 24, UTEP 13 - K-State bounces back after the heartbreaking loss last week with a wire to wire win over UTEP. A dominating D shakes off the doldrums and the offense does enough to keep the Miners at bay. The Wildcats will have a new kicker, I am sure, and he does the job in the one chance he gets.
tylervr11
Kansas State 34, UTEP 14 - Kansas State did not lose to a top 5 in team in Auburn last week, they beat themselves. With that, the Wildcats are still a sound team in all areas. UTEP will not be a walk in the park, but the KSU will bounce back well at home.
Hawkeyed Frog
Kansas State 34, UTEP 17- If this were in El Paso I'd give the Miners a shot, but in the Little Apple KSU bounces back from their disappointing loss to the Tigers- but miss an extra point to continue giving the fans fits about special teams.
Marshall Weber
Kansas State 28, UTEP 17 - UTEP is a solid team. The score's close, but the game won't be.
Kansas vs. Texas
Jamie Plunkett
Texas 35, Kansas 7 - For a week, Texas fans can just kick back, relax, and watch their depleted squad beat the tar out of the Jayhawks. Paul Finebaum changes his stance and calls Charlie Strong the best coach in the country, because he's a waffler.
coachmelissa
Texas 31, Kansas 13 - So Tyrone Swoopes expects Texas to make the playoffs - this year? UT has been outscored 61-24 in their last two games - I am pretty sure Tyrone was there for both of those. No way a two loss team makes the final four, even if they were by some miracle to get through conference play unscathed (which they won't). He must be a Cowboy's fan to live in that kind of delusional world. I expect Texas to beat Kansas, in an underwhelming but adequate performance, that won't be enough to push them in to the discussion for a national ranking, let alone a playoff spot.
tylervr11
Texas 31, Kansas 10 - Kansas is currently riding a one game winning streak, which will most likely will be their longest of the season. Texas is in need of a win and I think they will look Strong (pun intended) as they open conference play. Their defense held a very talented UCLA team to 20 points on the road last week.
Hawkeyed Frog
Texas 38, Kansas 7- Texas has an offense that, though simplistic, can be effective and a defense that will put a thumping on people. Kansas is very bad. This one is uglier than it looks thanks to a few red zone sputters.
Marshall Weber
Texas 31, Kansas 13 - Tyrone Swoopes gains some much needed confidence and Texas gets a much needed win. Welcome to 2014 where "a much needed win" for Texas is against the Kansas Jayhawks.
Iowa State vs. No. 7 Baylor
Jamie Plunkett
Baylor 48, Iowa State 17 - Baylor will start a little slower than normal, as they adjust to a defense that isn't totally lifeless. That won't stop them from rolling the Cyclones though, who, despite getting hyped up, don't really stand a chance.
coachmelissa
Baylor 56, Iowa State 24 - Iowa State had a bye after their big rivalry win over Iowa two weeks ago. Baylor has basically been on a bye since they lost to USF in the Fiesta Bowl. It won't matter for either. Bryce Petty, KD Cannon, rinse, repeat. You know the deal. We will find out about the Bears for real in October.
tylervr11
Baylor 52, Iowa State 20 - Baylor finally has to play a team that could consistently beat Texas high school football teams this week! They will be held under 60 points this week, and ISU will score a few points late. Bold prediction is the score is within a touchdown after the first quarter.
Hawkeyed Frog
Baylor 43, Iowa State 33 - The Cyclones lead this one for a while, but their offense just can't keep up in the long run. Baylor wins, but looks mortal.
Marshall Weber
Iowa State 24 vs. No. 7 Baylor 42 - The Bears put 70 on the Cyclones last year, but I don't think Iowa State will get bullied like they did last year.
TCU @ SMU
Jamie Plunkett
TCU 56, SMU 0 - Gary Patterson isn't one to run up the score, and yes, SMU will be fired up for this game more than any other, but really, the Mustangs are absolutely terrible. I wish they were better, I really do. It'd make this game more fun. It'll be fun enough to watch Trevone Boykin rack up 400 total yards of offense, though, so don't worry about having a good time.
coachmelissa
TCU 45, SMU 3 - I have tried and tried to get the hate boiling for this game. And don't get me wrong, I do not like SMU. But I'm not one to kick a man when he's down - so I will let our Frogs do that Saturday morning. I cannot envision a scenario where this ends with anything more than total domination in every facet of the game. Anything less would be unacceptable. I can imagine the boys are chomping at the bit to get after the Ponies, and GP has never been one to let his team look ahead. And even if they underestimate SMU, will that be enough to give the Ponies a chance? I think not. Go Frogs - Beat the Hell Out of SMU (or whatever is left of them).
tylervr11
TCU 55, SMU 6 - My last prediction is that TCU will outscore Baylor this week. TCU will hopefully improve on converting on third downs in this "away" game (scrimmage). SMU is starting their 4th string quarterback this week, which will not help their chances. I do believe SMU is the worst team in the country, so this game is lose-lose situation for the Frogs. Any result other than a blowout will not look good for the rankings. The ponies might want to ask Eric Dickerson if he is willing to start at tailback this week...
Hawkeyed Frog
TCU 40, SMU 3 - SMU plays TCU harder than they will play anyone else all season and still gets blitzed by 30+. The Mustangs may well go 0-12 this year.
Marshall Weber
TCU 63, SMU 0 - A 4th string walk-on versus what could be Gary's finest defense yet? I'm all in.
