Frogs O' War Friday Picks: Week 2

TCU faces off against the always dangerous BYE WEEK, while other Big 12 teams face real competition.

Current Standings

1. tylervr (9-0)

T-2. Jamie Plunkett (8-1)

T-2. Hawkeyed Frog (8-1)

T-2. Marshall Weber (8-1)

T-2. coachmelissa (8-1)

No. 4 Oklahoma @ Tulsa

Jamie Plunkett

Oklahoma 48, Tulsa 13 - The Rockets struggled mightily with Tulane, barely edging them out in double overtime. That tells you all you need to know. Sooners roll.

Hawkeyed Frog
Oklahoma 52, Tulsa 17 - I think 52 is my most predicted score for Oklahoma.  In this case, it just feels right, as Tulsa will struggle mightily to stop the Sooners.

Marshall Weber

Oklahoma 42, Tulsa 10 - I wouldn't feel validated as a person -- and with my number one pick -- if I didn't predict a blowout.

coachmelissa

Oklahoma 45, Tulsa 13 - Tulsa can't stop the Oklahoma O, which is led by a trio of impressive running backs. While QB Trevor Knight has another average game, the Oklahoma D stifles Tulsa and sophomore QB Dane Evans, who can't match his double OT heroics in week two. OU wins going away.

tylervr11

Oklahoma 52, Tulsa 17 - Blake Bell threw for for touchdowns and over 400 yards last year versus Tulsa's defense. Trevor Knight is a better quarterback, and Oklahoma is a better team this year. Tulsa will score points late.

No. 20 Kansas State @ Iowa State

Jamie Plunkett

Kansas State 42, Iowa State 24 - This game is close for a while because Iowa State desperately wants to right their wrong from Week 1. However, the fact remains, they just aren't that good.

Hawkeyed Frog
Kansas State 34, Iowa State 28 - Iowa State will bounce back as they always do (they seem to be the most resilient football team in the country), but Kansas State is simply a better team right now.

Marshall Weber

Kansas State 32, Iowa State 13 - The two nicest fan bases in the Big 12 square off. It's a very polite contest.

coachmelissa

Kansas State 31, Iowa State 17 - After losing to an FCS school (albeit a very very good one), the Cyclones get a Kansas State team that looked solid in week one. Expect to hear lots of Waters to Lockett, as the QB and WR will hook up for multiple scores. K-State handles ISU on the road.

tylervr11

Kansas State 42, Iowa State 20 - Kansas State will handle this game easily as Paul Rhodes is on the hot, check that fire seat this week.  For that reason, Iowa State will score some points on the KSU defense. ISU still will lose, but they will prevent themselves from being embarrassed.

Oklahoma State vs. Missouri State

Jamie Plunkett

Oklahoma State 56, Missouri State 7 - The Cowboys win easily, thankful they're not playing Famous Jameis again (not that they don't want another shot at the champs).

Hawkeyed Frog
Oklahoma State 73, Missouri State 13 - I think FCS schools must have picked on Gundy when he was a kid, because he sure loves kicking the crap out of them these days.

Marshall Weber

Oklahoma State 49, Missouri State 17 - The Cowboys "rebound" from their great performance against Jameis Winston and FSU. Tyreek Hill goes mental in this game and breaks out as one of the best players in the Big 12.

coachmelissa

Oklahoma State 48, Missouri State 7 - OSU showed out against the reigning National Champs, falling just short of what could have been the upset of the year. QB JW Walsh was electric, matching the Heisman winner shot for shot. Expect the Cowboys to take out their frustration against an overmatched Missouri State squad, blowing them away.

tylervr11
Oklahoma State 44, Missouri State 13 - OSU will not go 0-2. After the "good" loss to Florida State last week, if that makes sense, the Cowboys will bounce back with a blowout victory in their home opener.

Kansas vs. SE Missouri State

Jamie Plunkett

Kansas 35, SE Missouri State 27 - The Redhawks give the Jayhawks all they can handle for three and a half quarters, before Charlie Weis eats their quarterback to keep them from winning.

Hawkeyed Frog
Kansas 17, SE Missouri State 7 - Kansas improves to 1-0, but the new spread offense doesn't set the world on fire for the Jayhawks simply because they don't have the talent to run it properly.

Marshall Weber

Kansas 28, SE Missouri State 14 - Can't. Miss. This.

coachmelissa

Kansas 31, SE Missouri State 10 - It's Kansas vs Missouri (kind of)! Kansas is terrible. But even a terrible Kansas team will have no problem with this directional school, winning by a comfortable margin.

tylervr11

Kansas 34, SE Missouri State 13 - College Game Day will not be in Lawrence for this game, but Kansas has a good chance to walk away with this one. I believe that the game will be close in the first half, and then the Jayhawks will pull away in the 3rd quarter.

Texas vs. BYU

Jamie Plunkett

Texas 27, BYU 24 - This game is close, because BYU is better than people think, and Texas has suffered a tremendous amount of attrition already this season. However, Charlie Strong brings a toughness to this team that has been lacking, and they hold on to win in Austin.

Hawkeyed Frog
BYU 27, Texas 17 - Two years in a row.  Things are going to be much better on the defensive end with Charlie Strong in town, but without David Ash to stretch the Cougar defense, the Brighams are going to load up on the run and make Swoopes beat them with his arm.  He's not that kind of quarterback.

Marshall Weber

BYU 30, Texas 20 - A week ago this pick would've been different. This won't be like last year where the Cougars racked up nearly 600 rushing yards. Charlie Strong will control Taysom Hill, but the lack of Ash, Dom Espinosa, Kennedy Estelle, and Desmond Harrison will deny Texas revenge against a very good BYU team.

coachmelissa

BYU 24, Texas 14 - the loss of David Ash puts a damper on what could have been a fun rematch. Texas looked good in week one, but newly minted starter Tyrone Swoopes hasn't exactly inspired confidence in limited action. The news that Strong booted two players on the o-line for drugs doesn't help, and an inexperiences front gets even weaker. BYU controls the game from start to finish, despite a great defensive effort by the Horns.

tylervr11

BYU 34, Texas 31 - This match up is by far the most exciting and one of the hardest to predict out of the Big 12 games this week. David Ash is out with a concussion and UT has also suspended 2 of their offensive linemen for this game. I do not think that the Longhorns will be able to get revenge on BYU at home.

West Virginia vs. Towson

Jamie Plunkett

West Virginia 38, Towson 6 - West Virginia could not in their wildest dreams be so worn out from the Alabama game that they let this one slip away, even in the slightest.

Hawkeyed Frog
West Virginia 70, Towson 20 - The Mountaineers let out some frustration after letting a big win slip through their fingers.

Marshall Weber

West Virginia 45, Towson 10 - Still weary to make a firm stance on West Virginia, but they'll cruise in this game.

coachmelissa

West Virginia 48, Towson 17 - WVU may have been the biggest surprise of opening weekend, hanging tough with the preseason #2. The defense was as atrocious as expected, but Clint Trickett and the O showed that they can keep the 'Eers in games. D won't be an issue against Towson.

tylervr11

West Virginia 34, Towson 17 - Towson is another one of those FCS schools that you can not take lightly (ask Iowa State). They played North Dakota State for the national championship last year. I believe West Virginia will dominant between the end zones, but the score will make it look closer.

Baylor vs. Northwestern State

Jamie Plunkett

Baylor 45, Northwestern State 0 - Yes, that's the same score as their game against SMU. Multiple reasons - the defense is ok, and Northwestern State is bad, which means we'll see similar things from the defense. Why doesn't Baylor score more points? Because once again, Petty sees only one half of play, to reduce the potential for him hurting his back anymore.

Hawkeyed Frog
Baylor 90, Northwestern State 20 - Briles gonna Briles.

Marshall Weber

Baylor 55, Northwestern State 6 - Baylor's challenging themselves the way I challenged myself second semester senior year. Keep doing you, Art.

coachmelissa

Baylor 63, Northwestern State 10 - Another tough out of conference foe for the Bears. Will Petty play? Will it matter? No. Baylor wins as Art Briles runs it up again.

tylervr11

Baylor wins 66, Northwestern State 7 - Baylor will give up a point this week, something that SMU could not do. They will also put the offense in neutral and only score 66 points. Bryce Petty will not be kept in the game nearly as long this week.

Texas Tech @ UTEP

Jamie Plunkett

UTEP 35, Texas Tech 31 - UTEP just runs and runs and runs and Tech's poor defense can't stop them. Webb looks decent throwing for three TDs, but the Miners pull the upset.

Hawkeyed Frog
Texas Tech 33, UTEP 31 - UTEP can run the ball pretty darn well.  Tech couldn't stop the run against an FCS school.  I don't think the Miner defense is going to slow Tech down, but the potential for an upset is very real.

Marshall Weber

Texas Tech 42, UTEP 35 - This game starts at 10pm central -- which is 9pm El Paso time. Which is still very weird. You probably won't even get to finish this game at a bar. There's a mix of things that could make this a very interesting game. The Miners aren't a bad team, the strange start time, and Tech's clumsy defense...

coachmelissa

Texas Tech 37, UTEP 24 - if WVU was the biggest surprise for hanging with Alabama, Tech was the biggest surprise for letting Central Arkansas hang with them. Crazy things happen in the desert, but Kingsbury rights the ship and the Red Raiders look better in week two. Ice cream for everybody!

tylervr11

Texas Tech 49, UTEP 13 - Texas Tech will dominate this game and it should not be as close as last week's surprise for the Red Raiders. Tech's offense will strike gold versus this miners defense (bad joke for the week).

Bye Week: TCU
