Bobby Burton of Horns247 is reporting that Charlie Strong and the administration at Texas are ready to make a "serious run" at TCU co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie. The report states that Cumbie is Strong's top choice, and that the university would be willing to pay big bucks to bring him to the 40 Acres.
From the report:
Multiple sources tell Horns247 that Texas is prepared to make Cumbie one of the highest paid assistants in the country with a compensation package "north" of $1 million annually with a guaranteed contract of at least three years.
Texas doubled down on their efforts to hire Cumbie after fellow TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham withdrew his name from consideration for the head coaching position at North Texas earlier this week. Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman recently reported that Cumbie is interested in the position and will travel to Austin to interview this week.
It is interesting to note that Strong has already pledged that Cumbie would become the team's full-time offensive coordinator and play-caller. He has split those duties with Meacham at TCU for the last two seasons.
Stay tuned...
