Bobby Burton of Texas247 reported earlier Monday that Texas head coach Charlie Strong offered the Texas offensive coordinator job to Sonny Cumbie during a meeting in Fort Worth on Sunday evening. The two met again on Monday morning, down in Austin.
Can confirm that TCU's Sonny Cumbie is on campus with Texas coach Charlie Strong, but source said no deal is final... yet.

Cumbie has been Texas' No. 1 choice for the job since early last week, and they seem determined to get their man, offering him over $1 million to take the job. He hasn't been the only name connected with the position though, as Tulsa's OC Sterlin Gilbert has also been mentioned as a potential candidate.
The general consensus is that Cumbie has a pretty strong interest in the position, and that notion is supported by the second meeting down in Austin. Of course, any time a person is being courted for a new job, it's in their best interest to do their due diligence in examining the state of affairs at the company. Of course, it's also hard to see him traveling down to Austin just to turn down the job. I'd fully expect Cumbie to come back to Fort Worth before a decision is announced, though.
It would be a bummer to see Cumbie leave for an in-conference and in-state rival, but it would be hard to blame him for taking the promotion, both from a responsibility and salary standpoint.
