Athletic Director for a Day: if Cumbie leaves, candidates for next QB Coach

You might remember me from the article I wrote a couple years ago trying to help TCU find its next offensive coordinator. My #2 on the list was Doug Meacham. #1 on my list was just hired as the head coach at North Texas. I didn’t see Cumbie or a Co-OC situation as an option. (http://www.frogsowar.com/2013/11/4/5065074/athletic-director-for-a-day-new-offensive-coordinator-search)

I’m back. If Sonny Cumbie is going to defect to Texas, I want to be prepared to find his replacement. Doug Meacham will become the lone offensive coordinator. The new hire will be the quarterback coach and passing game coordinator. I don’t want Sonny Cumbie to leave. I hope we can retain him, however here’s some people we should bring in for an interview to discuss philosophy, recruiting, approach, fit, etc. if he decides to leave.

My search included the following criteria:

1) Do more with less (lower tier program whether it be FBS or FCS) – not a school getting 4 and 5 star players and maybe not developing them fully (coughs – Texas…)

2) Ranked highly in significant passing statistics in particular level of football – pass efficiency, pass yards per game, pass yards per completion, least passes intercepted, pass completion percentage (combined with several other supplementary offensive stats – first downs, 3rd down conversion pct, scoring offense, and total offense). Meaning they couldn’t be a pass-only team, they have to be efficient, explosive, and part of a good offense.

3) Young-ish (30-45 years old) to help with recruiting – sorry if that offends
