Report: TCU Promotes Chad Glasgow, DeMontie Cross to Co-Defensive Coordinators

Gary has done what we expected and promoted from within to replace Dick Bumpas, but he also made an outside hire.

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

FootballScoop.com and NBC Sports are reporting that TCU has promoted safeties coach Chad Glasgow and linebackers coach DeMontie Cross to co-defensive coordinators to replace Dick Bumpas, who retired earlier this month. Glasgow has worked with Patterson for 13 seasons, while Cross has been with TCU for the past two years.

It is also being reported that Graduate Assistant Paul Gonzales has been promoted to cornerbacks coach, replacing Kenny Perry, who took the same job at Kansas back in January. Gonzales has been with TCU for three seasons.

Meanwhile, Patterson has also made an outside hire, hiring former Washington State special teams coach Eric Russell. It's unclear what position Russell will hold, as Dan Sharp has been special teams coordinator for TCU. While it may seem that Russell will simply replace Glasgow and Cross as a defensive position coach, he's never coached defense, being mostly a special teams/tight ends guy throughout his coaching career.
