Now recruits — even early enrollees who move to campus and start classes in January — have to wait until the first Wednesday in February to officially sign with a school. An early signing period would give recruits the option to sign a National Letter of Intent in December.
When TCU accepted the invitation to join the Big 12 before the 2012 season, the hope was that access to a big-time conference would give the Horned Frogs big-time opportunities. Three years later, thanks in part to a surprising run at the first College Football Playoff, the Horned Frogs have finally seen a bump in recruiting.
It took, oh, a couple years longer than one might think, but the Big 12 is starting to see the downside of having a One True Champion slogan and not actually naming One True Champion. The cold fist of reality bloodying your nose has a way of doing that.
“Yeah, I take it as a compliment,” he said. “Being able to show that I have knowledge of the game is definitely a compliment. That’s something that’s followed me throughout my career, my dad’s career, people knowing that I have a high basketball IQ.”
TCU is the preseason favorite to win the Big 12 baseball regular season title in a vote by the conference’s head coaches, the Big 12 announced Thursday. The Horned Frogs reached the College World Series last season. Texas is second and Oklahoma State is third. TCU opens the season Feb. 13 against Southern Illinois.
