Here's a look at how the 7 MLB Frogs faired July 1-15, 2015:
Jake Arrieta (P/Chicago Cubs) - Arrieta has played 3 great games over the past couple weeks. The Cubs played the Mets on July 2, and Arrieta pitched 8 innings, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits. With 7 strikeouts and no walks, Arrieta had a pretty uneventful game—which is exactly how we like it for our pitchers! Cubs won 6-1. On July 7, the Cubs were home against the Cardinals. Arrieta pitched a little more than 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits. Cubs won 7-4. He returned to the mound on July 12 against the rival White Sox. He pitched 7 innings and only allowed 1 run on 2 hits. To top it all off, he helped his cause with a home run of his own. Cubs won 3-1. Arrieta's ERA is getting lower and lower, as it currently sits at 2.66. He has an outstanding WHIP of .99 and has only allowed 3 runs in the past 33 innings he's pitched. You can see more stats from his 2015 season here.
Matt Carpenter (3B/St. Louis Cardinals) - The Cardinals played the Padres on July 2. Even though they lost 2-1, Carpenter got on base 4 times and had an RBI, 2 walks, and 2 runs, which was a much-needed help for his AVG. On July 7, Carpenter went had one and 1 run against the White Sox in a 5-3 loss. He had 2 hits and 1 run scored against the Pirates in a 4-1 win July 9. Carpenter had a homerun on July 10 against the Pirates in a 5-2 loss. He scored 3 runs the following day, but the Cardinals lost 6-5 in extra innings. Carpenter's AVG is currently .266. Andrew Cashner (P/San Diego Padres) - Cashner faced the Cardinals on July 3. In 6 innings, he only allowed 1 run on 3 hits. He struck out 3, and the Padres won 2-1 in the 9th landing Cash with a no-decision. On July 8, he faced the Pirates for 7.2 innings, allowing only 1 run in the first 6 innings, but he proceeded to allow 3 more runs in the 7th and 8th. He had 5 strikeouts. His ERA now sits at 4.10 with a WHIP of 1.34. For more of Cashner's stats, click here.
Taylor Featherston (3B/Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) - The Angels played Colorado on July 8. Featherston came in to pinch-run for David Freese in the 9th and ended up scoring on a single. He played 3rd base in the bottom of the 9th for a 3-2 win. The Angels are still finding a good fit for Featherston on the field, and his AVG is currently .115. You can see more of his season here.
Brandon Finnegan (P/Kansas City Royals) - Finnegan faced the Twins on July 4. He came into pitch the top of the 6th and stayed through most of the 7th. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 2 in a 5-3 win. On July 7, the Royals played the Rays. Finnegan came in the top of the 6th and stayed through most of the 7th again. Finny didn't allow any hits or men to reach base. The Royals won 7-1. On July 9, the Royals continued their series against the Rays, where Finnegan came in again to pitch the 6th and allowed 2 hits and 1 walk. He kept the Rays from scoring and helped the Royals stay ahead for a win 8-3. July 11 saw the Royals at home against the Blue Jays. Finny came in for the 9th and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, including a homerun. The Royals lost 6-2, which hurt Finny's ERA. It currently sits at 3.22. For more on Finnegan's season, you can go here.
Bryan Holaday (C/Detriot Tigers) - The Tigers faced the Pirates on July 2. In 4 at-bats, Holaday had 1 hit but was unable to score. The Tigers lost 8-4. Check out all of his stats here.
