How does TCU's recruiting class rank nationally?

We take a look at how the four major recruiting services rated TCU's class.

The consensus among TCU fans is that the 2016 recruiting class is the best class ever taken by the Frogs. While Frog fans know that ratings don't tell the whole story, we also recognize that with a higher rated recruiting class comes more attention from future recruits, and this class should do just that.

Here's how Scout, Rivals, ESPN, and 247Sports rated TCU's 2016 recruiting class.

Notes:

  • The Scout filter just piled all the JUCO (JC) kids on top when you sort by rating (Chris Gaynor and Markell Simmons were atop the three-stars cluster). The Top four high school recruits are Sewo Olonilua (#103, #8), Isaiah Chambers (#109, #15), Ross Blacklock (#233, #26), and Darius Anderson (NR, #27), all four-star prospects.
  • Vernon Scott is listed as a CB, and is rated #44.
  • Isaiah Graham is the lowest-rated WR in the class.
  • Camron Williams is listed as the #29 ATH in the country.
  • Scout doesn't "grade" players, hence the NA's.

Notes:

  • Five of TCU's six JUCO recruits rate in the Top 5 at their position, and three (Williams, Ryan Parker, Tyree Horton) are ranked in the Top 10 Overall at the JUCO level.
  • ATH Sewo Olonilua, DT Ross Blacklock, DE Isaiah Chambers, OT Austin Myers (#194), S Innis Gaines (#210), and WR Isaiah Graham (#271)  are all top 300 players.
  • Brennen Wooten is listed as a PRO style QB, which differs from other sites that list him as a Dual-Threat QB.
  • Chris Gaynor is listed as a tackle, but in yesterday's press conference Gary Patterson noted that he'll be a guard.
  • Vernon Scott, listed as the #68 safety, will get a shot at cornerback, according to Patterson.

  • Unlike the Scout filter, the Rivals filter didn't just piled all the JUCO (JC) kids on top when you sort by rating, those four are considered the highest rated recruits in the class. The Top four high school recruits are ATH Sewo Olonilua (4*, #220, #12), DE Isaiah Chambers (4*, #188, #14), WR Camron Williams (3*, NR, #80), and DB KeShawn Somerville (3*, NR, #49).
  • Rivals doesn't rank JUCO players.
  • Regardless of actual position, all four offensive linemen are listed as "OL"

Notes:

  • The 1 "other" is transfer WR John Diarse, who isn't ranked...because he's a transfer...
  • Taj Williams is rated as the No. 4 JC WR. He, Parker, and Tyree Horton are all on ESPN's JC50 list, which is similar to the ESPN300 list.
  • Five recruits (Myers, Graham, Chambers, Sewo Olonilua (195), Ross Blacklock (274)) are on the ESPN300 list.
  • As you can see above, Somerville is considered a safety, not a cornerback. He's 22 spots behind Vernon Scott, who's rated as the No. 42 safety in the country.
