The field, and the schedule, has been set for the College World Series, and TCU and Tech will square off in game one Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm.
Joining the Frogs and Red Raiders in Omaha are two first time participants - Coastal Carolina, who upended LSU in Baton Rouge, and UCSB, who won in dramatic, walk-off fashion verses the number one overall seed, Louisville, in their home park. Traditional powers Miami and Arizona will face off to open their side of the bracket, while another program that is no stranger to the big stage, Florida, joins the Frogs, Raiders, and Coastal Carolina.
For TCU, getting a bit of revenge against Tech in the opening game would be sweet on multiple accounts; teams that make the winners bracket right out of the gate have a much better chance to advance to the championship series, not unlike in conference tournaments and regional play. Tech is the only team that TCU lost a series to (you may remember there was a little controversy during that) that the Frogs have not seen, and defeated, at some point in the post-season. The revenge tour has at least one more stop, apparently.
This isn't the first time that these two teams have met at this point in the season - back in 2014, the Frogs held on for a 3-2 victory over Tech in the opener for both teams.
The winner of that game will play at 8:00pm Tuesday, while the loser goes to the elimination game at 4:00pm the same day. The second matchup of that side of the bracket, Coastal and Florida, will follow TCU/Tech at 7:00pm Sunday evening.
On the other side, fellow Big 12 member Oklahoma State takes on the darlings of the post-season, the UCSB Gauchos, who had a walk-off grand slam on the final strike of the bottom of the ninth inning while trailing by three runs to advance to Omaha. The Cowboys, meanwhile, took it to South Carolina in a two game sweep in Columbia. They have Miami and Arizona to deal with as well.
