East Texas has been very good to Gary Patterson and TCU through the years, and the class of 2017 appears to be no exception.
Josh Thompson, a Rivals 3* recruit out of Nacogdoches, TX gave his verbal commit to TCU Sunday evening, becoming the third East Texas player to join #CarterBoys17. At 5'11.5" with 4.48 speed, the rising senior has excellent straight-line speed to go with true fluidity in his lateral movements and the ability to deliver the big hit.
The third East Texas player to commit within a couple day span - all of whom likely project to the defensive side of the ball at the next level - as Gary Patterson and TCU continue their trend of finding great players at and near the Louisiana border. Thompson has a chance to be truly special, and his offer list bears that out. With scholarships from seven of the ten Big 12 schools, including Texas and Baylor, as well as Missouri, Minnesota, and rising power Houston, Thompson was in high demand throughout the country.
With his unique skillset and overall athletic ability, Josh can play several roles in the 4-2-5, and will likely be used as a blitzer out of the defensive backfield, where he can truly utilize his speed. He is an exciting edition to the class of 2017, a group that has eight committed players and ranks in the 30s already.
Welcome to the #FrogFam, Josh!
