Brian Howard has unfinished business with the Frogs, according to an Instagram post from Tuesday afternoon. And for that reason, and others, he will bypass the Big Leagues to return to TCU for his senior year.
Howard, who took on the role of staff ace and team leader when Mitchell Traver was sidelined to start the seasonby injury, was 10-2 with a 3.19 ERA, including a 4-0 stretch in the post-season that featured victories in the Big 12 Tournament, the Fort Worth Regional, the College Station Super Regional, and the College World Series. Howard had a 2.9/1 strikeout to walk ratio in 98.2 innings, and became the anchor of a young pitching staff as well as the heart and soul of the team. He will likely be asked to lead the rotation again in 2017, one that will feature the return of two promising sophomores - Luken Baker and Jared Janczak - and potentially Mitchell Traver, who has yet to announce his decision.
We are still waiting on confirmation from two other Frogs who heard their name called last month - juniors Brian Trieglaff and Elliott Barzilli - the former who is rumored to be signing with the Yankees, who drafted him in the 13th round, and the latter who is likely to return to TCU.
Welcome back Brian, now let's go get ready to take care of some unfinished business in Omaha!
