TCU Announces 2016-17 Schedule Thursday
TCU will open its season on Friday, Nov. 11 versus Saint Thomas.
FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU men's basketball program announced its 2016-17 schedule Thursday afternoon.
The Horned Frogs, who usher in a new era with the return of head coach Jamie Dixon, will play 13 non-conference games, including 10 home dates inside Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena. TCU will have 16 of their 18 league contests broadcast on the ESPN family of networks, while two others will be made available on FOX Sports Net. The squad will play 14 league games against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, including seven in Fort Worth.
The Frogs will also take part in the prestigious Global Sports Classic in Las Vegas during the Thanksgiving Holiday. In addition, the Purple and White will take on Auburn on ESPNU at home in the fourth annual SEC/Big 12 Challenge in January.
The Purple and White will have 11 games nationally broadcast on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU, which includes their Dec. 30 home conference opener against Kansas set to be shown on ESPN2 at 8:00 p.m. The Frogs will travel to Allen Fieldhouse to take on the Jayhawks on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN2. TCU will also play on ESPN or ESPN2 versus West Virginia at home on Saturday, Feb. 25 at either 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
ESPNU contests include the Frogs' home tilt with Oklahoma on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 8:00 p.m., while the Purple and White will also take on Baylor (Jan. 21; 7:00 p.m.), Auburn (Jan. 28; 5:00 p.m.), Oklahoma State (Feb. 15; 8:00 p.m.) and K-State (March 1; 8:00 p.m.) in Fort Worth. Road games on ESPNU include West Virginia (Jan. 7; 12:00 p.m.), Oklahoma State (Jan. 23; 6:00 p.m.) and Baylor (Feb. 11; 1:00 p.m.).
TCU's conference tilt at Kansas State on Wednesday, Feb. 1 will be the first of five games broadcast on ESPNEWS. The Purple and White's home contests versus Texas (Feb. 4) and Texas Tech (Feb. 7), as well as road games versus Iowa State (Feb. 18; 5:00 p.m.) and Oklahoma on Saturday, March 4 will all be shown on ESPNEWS.
Other nationally broadcasted games for the 2016-17 season include a Wednesday road showdown at Texas (Jan. 11) on the Longhorn Network and a tilt at Texas Tech on Jan. 18. In addition, TCU's home game on Saturday, Jan. 14 versus Iowa State and several non-conference games will be available on FOX Sports Net. All game times and television plans for those match-ups will be announced at a later date.
The Purple and White, who will have a Purple and White Scrimmage on Nov. 5, will open the 2016-17 slate at home on Friday, Nov. 11 versus the University of Saint Thomas before battling Alabama State (Nov. 14), Jacksonville State (Nov. 18) and Illinois State (Nov. 21) in Fort Worth.
Following its matchup against the Redbirds, TCU will travel to Las Vegas to face off against host UNLV on Friday, Nov. 25 before taking on either Western Kentucky or Washington the following day inside the Thomas & Mack Center.
TCU will close out the month of November with a home game versus Washington on Wednesday, Nov. 30 before taking on Arkansas State on Saturday, Dec. 3. The Frogs will then travel to Dallas to face SMU on Wednesday, Dec. 7 and then return home for three-straight home tilts against Wofford (Dec. 10), Texas Southern (Dec. 18) and Bradley (Dec. 21).
The Horned Frogs will close out their non-conference slate, taking on the Tigers on Jan. 28 as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. TCU is 3-0 all-time in the Challenge, having defeated Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Tennessee the last three years.

Jamie Dixon’s men’s basketball effect has seen instant success when it comes to fan interest and recruiting. It’s almost time to see if those effects flow over on to the court, and now we know when and where TCU will play it’s Big 12 opponents.
The Big 12 announced it’s full conference schedule on Thursday, and it includes some quality chances for TCU to flash their new coach and recruits to the country.
15 of TCU’s 18 conference games, plus their Big 12/SEC Challenge game against Auburn, are slated to appear on ESPN’s network.
Things get started for TCU’s conference schedule on Friday, December 30th, when they host Kansas on ESPN 2 at 8:00 p.m.
The Frogs host Oklahoma the following Tuesday, January 2nd, at 8:00 p.m. on ESPNU.
TCU will also play one game on the Longhorn Network, when they travel to Austin on January 11th.
Opening the Big 12 slate against Kansas and Oklahoma is not exactly an easy way to kick things off, but we’ll see right away how Jamie Dixon has this squad prepared for the gauntlet that is Big 12 basketball.
