TCU Comes in Sixth in College Football Playoff Poll

TCU is one big step closer to the top of the pyramid, as the Horned Frogs leapt two spots in the second college football playoff poll of the season. Coming off of another dominating performance, this time in a win over Texas, the Frogs inched closer to the top four and trail their next opponent, Oklahoma, by just one spot, which sets up Saturday’s matchup to be a wild one indeed.

Iowa State, which lost to WVU last weekend, fell down the rankings all the way to 21st. The Cyclones still face Oklahoma State this season and have an outside chance at the Big 12 Championship game. On the other hand, the Pokes dropped a couple spots to 15 after their back and forth battle with the Sooners in the annual Bedlam Game.

Georgia holds at #1 with Alabama remaining in second place. Number three Notre Dame has a tough game this weekend, and can cause some serious chaos with a win in Miami. Clemson holds at four and has a clear path to the ACC Championship game, where they will likely play a playoff elimination game against Miami. The Canes are really holding much of the playoff positioning in their hands.

The top ten is rounded out with Miami at seven, who remains behind the Frogs and Sooners despite getting a win over ranked Virginia Tech last weekend, Wisconsin at eight, who might finally be challenged for the first time this season with Iowa coming to town, Washington at nine, Auburn at ten.

TCU has a golden opportunity to legitimize themselves as a playoff contender Saturday in Norman, and in the sixth position, pretty much control their own destiny at this point. Beat Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma and they could very well find themselves in the top four a week from now, and put themselves in a win and you’re in situation. Lose a close game, and they will need to get revenge in the Big 12 Championship and hope for a Miami win this weekend. Get blown out and the best they can hope for is a New Year’s Six game.
