Alex Robinson Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

TCU’s guard showed up big in wins at Kansas State and against Texas.

He has become one of the most explosive playmakers in a league full of top-notch guards, and now TCU’s Alex Robinson has been recognized as Newcomer of the Week. The award comes after Robinson was instrumental in the Frogs’ 2-0 week, as he dominated opponents with an array of moves in the paint and solid defense.

Robinson scored in double digits in both games, was a force on the glass, and dished out an average of five assists. The full press release is below.

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU sophomore guard Alex Robinson was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday after leading the Horned Frogs to a 2-0 week.

Robinson, a transfer from Texas A&M, averaged 14.5 points, 8.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds in wins over Kansas State and Texas. He recorded 12 points, eight assists, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals while playing all 45 minutes in TCU’s 86-80 overtime win at Kansas State on Wednesday. It was the Frogs’ first win in Manhattan as members of the Big 12 Conference.

Robinson then scored 17 points and had eight assists, four rebounds and two steals in TCU’s 78-63 win over Texas to give the Frogs their first sweep over the Longhorns since 1987. It also gave TCU its fifth Big 12 win, the most since joining the conference.

Robinson shared the award with Oklahoma State’s Lindy Waters III. Deonte Burton of Iowa State was the Big 12 Player of the Week.
