The Frogs scored two in the first and Lodolo was red-hot on the mound with the lead early. Through the first four innings he held the Sooners to just one hit and allowed no runs on just 46 pitches. he threw 30 of those pitches for strikes and struck out two with no walks.
Wanhanen worked a walk to lead off the game in the first and after a strikeout by Luken Baker, Skoug and Warner hit back-to-back doubles to give the Frogs a 2-0 lead. Lodolo kept the Frogs ahead until the fifth when OU singled with two outs. A fielding error by Ryan Merrill to put two runners on and a double by Zaragoza scored two unearned runs to tie the game at 2-2.
The Frogs and the Sooners each scored one in the sixth to make it 3-3 and OU tripled and doubled to lead off the seventh and make it 4-3 before a groundout, walk, strikeout and fly-out ended the inning. Ryan Merrill walked to lead off the eighth before a strikeout by Baker and back-to-back doubles by Skoug and Warner gave TCU their second lead of the ballgame at 5-4.
After that, Brown and Williams walked around a fielder’s choice by Barzilli before a wild pitch scored Warner to make it 6-4 and Watson struck out to end the top of the inning. The Sooners weren’t done yet though, as they singled and doubled off Sean Wymer around a groundout. Wymer hit the next batter and OU singled shortly after to tie things up again at 6-6.
Wanhanen doubled to lead off the ninth and Merrill singled to put runners at first and third with no outs. A groundout by Landestoy, in for Baker, and a walk by Skoug loaded the bases with one out before Warner was walked and Brown was hit by a pitch to force in two runs and make it 8-6 Horned Frogs. After that, a walk by Williams forced in another run to give the Frogs a 9-6 lead. Watson lined out to end the inning.
Credit is due to Cal Coughlin who came in to relieve Lodolo in the seventh and closed out the last two outs of the inning on seven pitches. Lodolo went 6 1⁄3 innings allowing seven hits and four runs (two earned) on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Baker left the game in the eighth after colliding with a runner at first and Frog fans will hope that he is okay to come back for the remainder of the season.
Skoug went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Merrill went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Frogs in a crucial matchup. Feltman came on in the ninth and gave up a lead off single to center to start the inning, but he settled in for a fly out before allowing another single to make things interesting. Not too much so though, as he struck out O’Brian and got a groundout to short to put the game away.
The win today clinches at least a share of the Big 12 Championship for the Frogs. They will go for the outright series and conference win tomorrow at 2:00pm.
