Three TCU commits were taken off the board on day one of the MLB Draft, and now a current Horned Frog has been taken, with the Cleveland Indians drafting Austen Wade.
Wade was drafted with the 162nd overall pick, and his approximate pick value is $293, 800, per MLB.com. Wade is hitting .342 this season, as the Frogs head to Omaha this weekend, with 24 extra base hits, 15 stolen bases, and a team-leading 47 walks.
TCU’s right fielder projects well at the next level, with top-end speed on the base paths and great pop in his bat.
Wade is the 5th pick for the Indians thus far, and the third outfielder. He’s also the second college player taken by Cleveland, who took three high school students in the first three rounds.
Wade surely will not be the last Horned Frog taken in the draft, with guys like Evan Skoug, Brian Howard, Nolan Brown, Mitchell Traver, Cam Warner, and Elliott Barzilli waiting in the wings, but he is the first.
Congrats, Austen!
