TCU baseball blanks Abilene Christian | Fort Worth Star Telegram
Four pitchers, Russell Smith, Caleb Sloan, Augie Mihlbauer, and Cal Coughlin, combined to hold ACU to just seven hits and zero runs.
Left-hander Russell Smith held ACU scoreless on five hits over 4 2/3 innings. Caleb Sloan took over and threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Augie Mihlbauer and Cal Coughlin each tossed scoreless innings.
Only two ACU base runners reached third base. It’s the second shutout by TCU pitching this season.

Josh Watson and AJ Balta got the scoring started for TCU, who moved to 23-18 on the season.
TCU took an early 2-0 lead in the third inning. Coby Boulware opened the inning with a base hit. After a walk to Connor Wanhanen, Colton Parrish was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Josh Watson hit a sacrifice fly to give the Frogs the 1-0 lead. A.J. Balta followed with an RBI-single to drive in Wanhanen.
Johnny Rizer’s lead-off double in the fourth turned into another run as he scored on a Conner Shepherd sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.

Stewart Mandel thinks highly of TCU, apparently, as he has the Frogs ranked No. 8 in his post-spring Top 25, ahead of every other Big 12 team.
In his latest preseason top 25 poll for the upcoming season, Mandel ranks the Horned Frogs as the eighth best team in the country. He sites the potential emergence of sophomore quarterback Shawn Robinson, as well as talented receiving corps and another stout defense.

TCU’s Thomas Montigel named one of nation’s top young coaches | Fort Worth Star Telegram
Montigel has been awarded for his work as the operation’s coordinator. Congrats!
Montigel, 26, was named to the NABC Under Armour 30-under-30 team, which recognizes the some of the best young coaches in college basketball. Montigel, who attended Paschal High School, played four seasons with the Horned Frogs before serving two seasons as a graduate assistant. He has been the operations coordinator the past two seasons.

The No. 7 TCU men’s tennis team was selected to appear in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships for the 29th time in program history Tuesday when this seasons’ full 64-team bracket was announced. The Horned Frogs earned the No. 9 seed and will host No. 26 Dartmouth, No. 35 Oregon and Utah State from May 12-13 for the first and second rounds at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
