The 6’2”, 220 pound backer is the second at the position to commit to the Frogs, joining Aledo standout Wyatt Harris as a future stalwart in the middle of the defense. Marcheselli, a three star prospect, is a top ten player in the state of Oklahoma and a top 50 OLB prospect in the country. He held offers from ten schools, including Arkansas, Texas Tech, Colorado, and Nebraska. With 111 tackles - 98 solo - as a junior, and three state wrestling titles to his name, the rising senior is sure to climb in the rankings in his final high school season. He’s a perfect fit for the Frogs defense - though he is already 220 pounds, the talented athlete runs a 4.48 40 and a sub 4.0 pro shuttle. He might be a bigger, and faster, Travin Howard.
A hard-hitter with great hands for his position (he also plays WR for his high school team), Zach has great instincts and understands pursuit angles. Plus, he has the speed to chase down players from behind and contain dual-threat QBs - something that’s certainly a plus in the spread-heavy Big 12. He’s also a solid tackler with good technique, who wraps up and takes down opponents, a testament to his wrestling ability.
Marcheselli is the seventh defensive commitment for TCU in the class of 2019. Check out his highlights below and welcome Zach to the Frog Fam!
