McCuin seems to be a hidden gem; the 6’, 180 pound junior showed out at the ETSN/APEC Football Recruiting Combine in May, drawing attention from FBS programs and earning his first FBS offer - from ULM. His 40-yard dash time of 4.51 stood out, as did a broad jump of 123” and a vertical of 39”. All were good for top ten finishes at the event. He improved on his time in the 40 Friday at the Frogs’ Friday Night Lights camp, running a 4.42, one of the top five times among the attendees.
This drew the attention of bigger programs, most notably TCU, who was the first to award him a Power Five offer. McCuin wasted no time in pledging to the Frogs, accepting the offer the same day it was given. Calling TCU “a dream school”, the versatile defensive stalwart told Jeremy Clark of 247 that there was no hesitation at all. “I wasn’t expecting it (offer) today; they had told me after the Friday camp that they may offer me Saturday morning but to get it today was a true blessing,” he said. “It’s a blessing, it’s my dream school and I’ve been dreaming about this since I was in fifth grade and it’s finally happened. I’m really excited. I just can’t explain it in words; it’s a dream come true.”
Though he is currently unranked and un-starred, McCuin helped lead Jacksonville into the bi-district round a season ago, and should draw more interest now that Gary Patterson has identified him as a future contributor. With excellent speed, the ability to play multiple positions, and some serious moves with the ball in his hands, McCuin seems like the perfect fit in the backend of GP’s 4-2-5. He is not afraid to stick his nose in there and make contact, and is a solid tackler with good fundamentals. He also plays QB for his high school, which shows his high football IQ and ability to read and diagnose plays.
McCuin joins 2019 commits Donavann Collins (Cedar Hill, TX) and William Jones (Mansfield Summit, TX) in the secondary, is the fifth defensive commit, and 12th overall. The Frogs currently have the 19th best class in the country and third in the Big 12.
