The Shirners Classic will take place March 1-3, 2019, at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. The Frogs face Houston on Friday afternoon, Texas A&M on Saturday night, and Rice on Saturday night, as the all-Texas schools lineup features TCU, Texas A&M, Baylor, Rice, Houston, and Texas State.
All three TCU opponents are quality matchups, but the obvious featured game is the Saturday night contest against the Aggies. The Frogs have a recent history of crushing Texas A&M’s hopes and dreams, with the last matchup ending in spectacular late-night fashion at the Shriners Classic in 2017.
The Frogs also kept A&M from reaching the College World Series in 2015 and 2016, defeating the Aggies in the Super Regional round each of those seasons.
The Baylor-A&M matchup will also be an interesting game to keep an eye on, as Baylor showed a much improved squad in 2017, and looks to continue their return to the top tier of Big 12 baseball teams in 2018.
I’m personally a huge fan of TCU continuing to participate in this tournament so frequently. The Shriners Classic is a fantastic philanthropic weekend which features stories of the significant impact the Shriners Hospital has on the greater Houston area.
So, it’s never too early to start planning a trip to H-Town. Get your travel plans ready, as TCU baseball looks to have a bounce-back season after a disappointing (compared to recent seasons) 2017.
