The Coaches Poll just released a preseason Top 25, and the Horned Frogs check in at No. 16, wedged between No. 15 USC and No. 17 Virginia Tech. Here’s what they have to say about TCU:

Outlook: This should be another overachieving season for the Horned Frogs. Again, defense will be the team’s backbone. DL Ben Banogu is a dominant pass rusher, and LB Ty Summers patrols the middle. QB Shawn Robinson is young, but he will have two outstanding receivers in KaVontae Turpin and Jalen Reagor.

I wonder when winning 10+ games a year will stop being “overachieving” for TCU.

The Frogs are one of five Big 12 teams to land in the preseason rankings, along with No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 20 West Virginia, No. 21 Texas, and No. 25 Oklahoma State. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Georgia round out the top five with the Sooners.

The five Big 12 teams is tied for most with the SEC and the Big 10. Kansas State and Iowa State also received votes, meaning 70% of the conference at least received votes to be in the preseason Top 25. By a quick count, that’s more than any other P5 conference (SEC-64%, PAC 12-58%, ACC - 57%, Big 10 - 54%).

TCU is projected to be one of the top three schools in the Big 12, and this poll seems to align with that pretty well.
