Can TCU break through against Oklahoma for the first time since 2014?

Despite getting two cracks at him last year, defensive whiz Gary Patterson had no answer for Heisman winner Baker Mayfield. Last season, however, was an outlier, as Patterson’s bunch has played Oklahoma as tough as anyone in the league in recent years. TCU has the defensive line to match up with Oklahoma up front and its running game, and the secondary to hang with the Sooners’ speedy deep threats. Even so, TCU will have to put up the points to have a chance. By late October, the Horned Frogs have to hope that quarterback Shawn Robinson will have found his stride.

Game-by-game predictions for TCU in 2018: Will Horned Frogs get back to Big 12 title game? | Sports Day

Circle this one, y’all. It’s the season maker.

A tough draw to open Big 12 play against a rebuilding and hungry Longhorns squad in Austin. Some key NFL departures may prevent Texas from realizing its full potential under Tom Herman, but UT’s roster is loaded with young talent. UT’s defense could be sneaky good, too.

Prediction: TCU 34, Texas 31

We will get the first poll that matters today... where will the Frogs land?

We won’t be the ones who pick the Horned Frogs to finish at the back end of the Big 12. Gary Patterson’s track record speaks for itself and despite losing a litany of key components on both sides of the football, TCU will be a well-coached team that gets the most out of its talent. The offense will look a good bit different from an athleticism standpoint this fall with Shawn Robinson as the full-time starter at QB. Robinson completed 13-of-27 passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns last fall as Kenny Hill’s backup during TCU’s 11-win season.

2018 Big 12 Betting Preview: Oklahoma Favored, but TCU and West Virginia Loom | Sports Illustrated

In case you are a person who needs to know betting things...

In a conference known for exciting offenses, TCU has built an identity of perennially fielding one of the nation’s most thrilling defenses. That should be no different this season, as Gary Patterson’s D is fast and deep, and headlined by game-changers like DE Ben Banogu and LB Ty Summers. Plus, the linebacking corps added graduate transfer and former Northern Illinois standout Jawuan Johnson. There aren’t many known entities on offense, though, save for veteran receiver KaVontae Turpin. Plus, to actually win a Big 12 title, the Horned Frogs will probably have to beat Oklahoma—something they’ve only done once since joining the league in 2012, and failed to even come close to doing in two opportunities last season.
